Once trust has been betrayed it is difficult to trust again. From the beginning of our lives we trust our parents to love, provide and protect us. What happens though when these basic needs are not only denied but are betrayed?
Trust can be regained by repeated positive experiences with the ones that betrayed us. However, when our parents consistently is unreliable and un-trustworthy trust can not be gained. When it's your parents, guardians, or parental figures who consistently demonstrate un-trustworthiness this effects your ability to trust anyone. After all if the first people in the world who were supposed to love, provide and protect us proved un-trustworthy then how could we possibly trust anyone else?
Trust is at the core of every relationship we try to have in our lives. Without trust we cannot bond, give and are fearful of taking risks with out hearts. Betrayal of trust must be acknowledged by those who broke the trust. The offender must admit that they inflicted a deep painful hurt. The offended must admit their responsibility in the situation too. Forgiveness must be given and an attempt on all parties involved to improve what the issue might have been must be made in order for trust to ever be built again.
