When Gaurdian Services Owner Toni Burleson started her Virtual Assistant business many of her family and friends were afraid she had made a serious mistake. Toni Burleson is a virtual assistant and her decision to become one and operate her own business was not just a career change it was a life style change!

A single woman, Toni Burleson was the General Manager for a small internet provider firm, when she decided to uproot her life and charge in a new direction that would allow her more time to devote to other interests in life such as volunteering, animal rescue and spending more time with her friends and family!

Getting Worse by the day

Today another friend contacted me to tell me they had been laid off. Every where I turn another person has lost their job. People who have been with their companies for lengthy periods of time, short periods of time, college educated, GED, high school diplomas, etc. It's amazing to me that no one seems to be safe in our current situation because these lay offs are effecting everyone in every industry.

More people out competing for few jobs. What are we going to do? What's the resolution to so many people being out of work?

I have chosen to return to school and work for myself but what about those people who can't make those choices? What are our options?

It's sad and depressing to think about so many people out of work, struggling to make ends meet and locate new employment, take care of their families....and still no one seems to have the answer!

Day 4

Well, I decided to stay close to camp today. I have just been having a nice relaxing day hanging out with NaNook and NaKoda!

We have gone on a walk around camp and just hung out in the cabin reading. In 3 days I have managed to read half a book I have been trying to read since Christmas!
I think the rest of the afternoon we will just do more of the same!

I did decide to leave San Antonio a day early and head to Hye Texas. Hye is right outside of Johnson city (home town of Lyndon B Johnson). I will be visiting two of the puppies from NaNook and NaKoda's first litter; Lilly and Loki.

Other than pictures and emails we haven't seen them or their owners Jackie and Niki since they came to our home to pick them up! It should be a nice visit!

Road Trip - brief

Wow! The past few days have been so busy and I have been on the go non stop!
I have so many things to write and post about my trip and will do so upon my return which should be somewhere around next Saturday!

Day 3

Well I have officially put in a full day today! After a late night of having drinks with the people in one of the other cabins, I woke up and after piddling around for a bit I caught the bus into town again!

Today's destination was the Market Square. While the mile walk there and the mile walk back were great I must admit I was not very impressed with the actual market place. There were many shops but alot of them had the same stuff and it was mostly crappy souvinere type stuff.

The mariachi bands were nice and I enjoyed listening to those but what I enjoyed the most today was the walk to and from the marketplace! I stopped in the courthouse square and listened to some bands, took beautiful pics of the courthouse, cathedrals and misc architecture along the way!

About 2:30pm I decided more than 2 miles of walking and piddling around town I was ready to get back on the bus and go back to the camp grounds and go for a nice swim and relax before dinner!

I met a lovely couple from New York at the pool. They were very pleasand and they spoke of their family and invited me to ride with them and their son to Fredericksburge the next day so I am! This should be another fun adventure and I am having my friends Jackie and Kevin meet us there! A motorcycle ride with a stranger is something I havent' done in years since all the Spring Breaks ago in Mexico with my best friend! Crazy days and even crazier nights! Seems weird that this is the same best friend I am now having to text twice a day so she knows a killer has not attacked me!

Thank God for her, I would be lost in this world without her friendship!

Day 2

After a nigth that was like an episode of cops, I rose early this morning and caught a city bus headed into downtown and spent five hours walking around downtown and in the River Walk!

There were beautiful flowers and bidrs and music as well! I am not sure what types of instruments (besides guitars and drums) but this one particular band were playing wooden flute type instruments and the created such a beautiful, relaxing sound!

As I traveled down the RiverWalk I noticed a group of birds and one had a flock of babies swimming around her. 2 mallards swam up to her and began attacking her, holding her under water. It was a bit upsetting! Most people just passed by after making a couple of comments but on one side of the RiverWalk was a family who tried to scare away the two mallards attacking the female. On the other side of the RiverWalk was myself and another lady. As they came to our side we would do the same. Soon, another mallard came flying in and he scared off the two that were being so aggressive. He helped her round back up her babies and get into the shrubbery on the banks. We assumed this was her mate.

As I traveled on down the RiverWalk I watched the people sitting and reading, taking pictures, walking and enjoying the day! It made me sad in a way that I didn't have a companion to share my day with, but on the other hand if I did would I been open to all I was observing now or wrapped up in my own little world as all these people seem to be?

Road Trip

I set out for my solo adventure on Friday morning as I had planned. I traveled 4 1/2 hours, just me and my dogs and the google maps to San Antonio! I was fine until I started to get into the San Antonio outskirts where I made a couple of wrong turns. My anxiety levels started to increase but I quickly settled the chaotic feelings by making a couple of changes in lanes, turning around and before I knew it I was right where I wanted to be! I checked in at the KOA campgrounds, found my cabin, unpacked the truck, changed clothes and NaNook and NaKoda and I ventured through the campgrounds to see what we could find!

While the campgrounds were very nice I was less impressed because I thought it should be more nature. However, I did find a few things to take pictures of to get use to my new camera!

Once we were done with our walk we returned to our air conditioned cabin and I must admit I was read for a nap after the long drive! I never could get to sleep though and instead I looked through the materials the KOA program provided to it's travelers and decided I would travel into downtown San Antonio via the public bus system the next day! The area should be pretty eventful with it being the weekend before Cinco De Mayo so I am exitced about the possibilities!

For now, I think I will just relax for the rest of the evening on the porch swing and read Stephen King's Duma Key!
