NaNook & NaKoda's Big Paws Rescue Start Up

read our story! For those of you that have
happened to stumble onto my page, my name
is Toni Burleson and I’m calling on my community
and the global community to help me save lives!

*Our Mission Statement*

NaNook & NaKoda’s Big Paw Rescue" received
our official 501(c)(3) letter and now are the first
Brown county based nonprofit rescue organization
whose goal is to provide lost, abandoned and owner-
surrendered animals permanent, safe, and loving
homes and to provide permanent sanctuary, care,
and love for special needs animals who could not other-
wise be placed in a forever home.

The need for the rescue in our community is due to our
community only having a kill shelter and the high number
of stray and dumped animals that walk into Corinne T Smith
Animal Center every day.

In 2010, 50% of CTSAC animals were euthanized.

In 2011, 51% of CTSAC animals were euthanized.

In 2012, 60% of CTSAC animals were euthanized.

In 2013, 50% of CTSAC animals were euthanized.

In 2017 59% of CTSAC animals were euthanized

The number of animals being dumped on country roads,
turned loose in town and not reclaimed at the local kill shelter
when picked up and turned in, back yard breeding and the
number of these animals being euthanized by the local kill
shelter are the main reasons a 501c3 rescue is needed in our area!

All donations made to NaNook & NaKoda's Big Paws Rescue
start up will go to the care, housing, supplies and resources needed
to rescue dogs. Who we are and what we do. We are Toni and Jennifer, you may know us from high school or other area volunteer or rescue work or
you may not know us at all.

Jennifer and I believe that every animal has a right to a safe life filled
with love. Our goal is to shelter pets in a cage-free home-like sanctuary
and only cage the animals for their safety while they are being
acclimated to their new environment or for medical needs. Sadly, we
cannot take as many homeless pets as we would like as we are limited
by the number of fosters starting out and the space in our homes but
as we rehabilitate and adopt out a spot opens for a new resident.

As you may know, our love for animals has compelled us to start a

sanctuary to shelter predominately large breed and difficult to adopt dogs.

the care and shelter of all the rescues at NaNook & NaKoda’s Big Paws Rescue, no exception. We have no current paid staff. Our insurance expense is donated by one of the founders.

We are completely funded out of our own pocket and thru public donations. We have completed the process of becoming a 501c3 and hope to acquire funding thru future grants but we need your help right now. Grantors do not often give grants in the first year of a non profit start up because they like to see that the community is going to support the efforts. This means we NEED the communities support! We often rescue animals needing special medical attention for injuries

and/or illnesses. At our no-kill rescue we care for

dozens of rescues whose age, medical condition, temperament or other
special needs makes them extremely difficult to re-home. Like us,
these furry folks need nourishing food, safe shelter, and regular medical
care. Your donations help provide spaying/neutering,

vaccinations, veterinary care, training and love. NaNook & NaKoda’s
Big Paws Rescue is a non-profit organization receiving no government
funds or currently grants (although we are applying for grants). We are
funded entirely by generous people like you. Please consider a donation
to help us continue to serve the homeless animals of Brown county.
We are the last chance for these animals to have a happy forever life.

This is where your donations go .....

Food, Vet bills, indoor shelter and shade cover for outside time, treats,
enrichment toys, training, cleaning supplies, laundry, sheets/blankets,
towels, bedding, flea/tick meds, heartworm meds/treatments, crates/
kennels and more and if possible we are working towards the purchase
of portable buildings to start an actual location on the founders land and
become more than a network of foster homes. (In the event we close our
doors in the future all portable buildings will be donated to
another 501c3 rescue organization).

Our ultimate goal is to be a sanctuary where we can shelter larger numbers
of animals until they are adopted or for the remainder of their lives.

Some of the items we currently need to purchase or continuously need to
purchase:

Large portable building to house more dogs for “home” like environment.
Place where they will sleep and play during heat of day, bad weather, or
cold weather.& learn to live indoors with manners (basic obedience

and good canine training)
