Our local kill shelter has been in business for 44 yrs. They report taking in over $200,000 in income every year.

I don't see a category where the report the contracts they have with Brownwood, Early, Bangs and several other small communities where the cities pay them to take in the stray dogs of each town...........so not sure where they are reporting that.......

They have limited space. So no matter how much money is donated to them they will always euthanize for space.  The last time I walked through the shelter to pull dogs for NaNook & NaKoda's Big Paws Rescue they had dogs every where in small crates in hot buildings. These dogs are not taken out of these little crates and exercised, they are not loved on and given attention. These dogs are hidden in a building from the public view.  The adoptions room was doubled up with dogs in the larger kennels. Very few of these dogs are taken out and exercised on a daily basis. The lost and found buildings kennels are doubled up and the same happens. These dogs are hot, stressed, high anxiety, depressed, afraid because a shelter is a very stressful environment with little outlet for these dogs.  Still this shelter asks for donations but no matter how much money they raise........they will still euthanize for space.   Yes, rescues take dogs (as NaNook & NaKoda's Big Paws Rescue does) but traditional rescues fill up and since they are no kill they shut intake down unlike the shelter.  

Many people don't want to give their money to a kill shelter. Many people have had bad experiences with the local shelter but want to help the animals somehow but don't know how.  To those people we put out a CALL TO ACTION and offer an alternative opportunity to help the animals.
