One of our big goals for 2018 has been to purchase and finish out a portable building to be used as "The Dog House". This house will be human livable BUT for the dogs. The dogs will have crate/dens set up like bedroom suites where they will sleep. It will have a living area and a kitchen are. The dogs will live indoors and be able to go outside any time to run and play. We will house train, potty train, and obedience train all the dogs who stay with us!
So far Mar 2018- Oct 2018 (period we have had our 501c3 status) we have been able to save 28 dogs and adopted out 13. It takes a little longer to find homes for large/giant breed dogs or dogs with behavior such as Simi & Savitar who suffered extreme abuse and needed to be rehabilitated with touch therapy or Rikki the former bait dog (#eastlandcounty14) who doesn't trust humans easily (she now has 5 human friends as does well with other dogs) or Tantoo the deaf dog who was going to be euthanized at the high kill shelter he had been in for 3 months before the realized he was deaf and then was going to be euthanized the day the discovered he was.
We want to continue rescuing dogs and helping veterans but we need space and money to care for them as well as pay for the vetting on dogs who we donate to veterans!
Donations are the fuel that get our rescue to where we are going. As a new non profit we don't qualify for many grants and we don't have contracts with the city like many shelters do. We survive on the generosity of the people in our community. Some people donate because they are animal advocates and some donate just because they need the tax deduction. We don't care what the reason we gratefully accept all donations and take care of the dogs in our care and try to save more. Without donations we cannot reach these goals!
