New Adventures

NaNook & NaKoda's Big Paws Rescue is taking on a new adventure.
In the process of saving canine lives from kill shelters in Texas we will be evaluating dogs to be candidates for service dog or emotional support dogs for veterans.
The test includes:
  • Controlled Unload out of Vehicle
  • Approaching the Building
  • Controlled Entry Through a Doorway
  • Heeling Through the Building
  • Six Foot Recall on Lead
  • Sits on Command
  • Downs on Command
  • Noise Distraction
  • Restaurant
  • Off Lead
  • Controlled Unit (leaving the building)
  • Controlled Load into Vehicle
“The purpose of the Public Access Temperament Test is to ensure that dogs who have public access are stable, well-behaved, and unobtrusive to the public. It is to ensure that the client has control over the dog and the team is not a public hazard.”
We currently have 9 German Shepherds preparing to come to our location in Brownwood Tx. They should begin arriving on Saturday Sept 29th. We will be putting these dogs in outdoor pens for the time being as we have been trying to raise funds for a portable building that will be used as home environment for the dogs to have cage free living. Cage free living helps the dogs relax and is a less stressful enviornment. By living in a home environment while they are with us the learn house manners and basic obedience making for excellent adoption candidates. With our veterans program dogs who will also be learning public access training and service dog tasks it is better for them to live indoors while training and awaiting adoption since most people's service dogs live indoors with their handlers.
If you would like to help us care for the dogs while in our care or help us purchase our portable building please donate to our facebook fundraiser or via paypal!
